Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 8 March 2026

By using Nibandana, you agree to the following terms. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the service.

Service Description

Nibandana is a free, open-source search engine that indexes judgments from the Supreme Court of India and 25 High Courts. It provides full-text search, filtering by court, judge, year, and disposal nature, and links to original judgment PDFs. The service is provided at no cost and without requiring registration.

Not Legal Advice

Nibandana is a search tool, not a legal service. Nothing on this website constitutes legal advice, legal opinion, or a legal recommendation. Search results are presented as-is from indexed public records and should not be relied upon as a substitute for professional legal counsel. If you need legal advice, consult a qualified advocate.

Data Accuracy and Completeness

Judgment data is sourced from the eCourts platform via the Indian High Court Judgments and Indian Supreme Court Judgments datasets on the AWS Open Data Registry, managed by Dattam Labs.

While we strive for accuracy, indexed data may contain errors, omissions, or lag behind official court records. Excerpts shown in search results are the first 300 words of each judgment and may not capture the full context. Nibandana is not a substitute for the official eCourts platform or certified court records. Always verify critical information against official sources.

Judgment PDFs

Judgment PDF files are hosted on AWS S3 as part of the AWS Open Data Registry. Nibandana provides direct links to these files but does not host, store, or modify the PDFs. Availability of PDFs depends on the AWS Open Data program and is outside our control.

Service Availability

Nibandana is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no guarantees regarding uptime, availability, or uninterrupted access. The service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or infrastructure issues. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time without notice.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Send automated requests that exceed the rate limits (60 requests per minute for search, 120 per minute for other endpoints)
  • Attempt to bypass bot detection or rate limiting mechanisms
  • Use the service in any way that could damage, disable, or impair its operation
  • Misrepresent search results as official court records or certified copies
  • Redistribute indexed data without proper attribution as required by the CC-BY-4.0 license

We reserve the right to block or restrict access for users who violate these terms or engage in abusive behaviour.

Data License and Attribution

Judgment data sourced from eCourts via the Indian High Court Judgments and Indian Supreme Court Judgments datasets on AWS Open Data Registry, managed by Dattam Labs. Licensed under CC-BY-4.0.

If you reuse data obtained through Nibandana, you must provide attribution to the original data sources as required by the CC-BY-4.0 license.

Open Source

Nibandana's source code is publicly available. The software is provided under its own license terms, separate from these terms of service. Use of the source code is governed by the license in the project repository.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Nibandana and its contributors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of or inability to use the service. This includes but is not limited to damages arising from reliance on search results, data inaccuracies, service interruptions, or unavailability of judgment PDFs.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that search results will be accurate, complete, current, or error-free.

Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any disputes arising from the use of this service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in India.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the terms were last revised. Continued use of Nibandana after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
